Shiris is currently employed at Dominion Energy in Richmond, VA as a business process analyst and has been working with the company for over 13 years. She enjoys traveling and one of her goals is to fly somewhere every 60-90 days. However, the past two years have been challenging in the world of flight and vacation. Her travel bucket list consists of visiting Hawaii, Paris, Africa, Fiji and Dubai between 2023 and 2025. Shiris also likes to spend her free time with her fianc茅 and friends, as well as tailgating NFL/college football games.

She decided to attend 糖心传媒 Online due to a co-worker, Monica Davies, who attended and recommended the program to her. Monica spoke very highly of the school and said that Shiris would love the programs.

Before attending 糖心传媒 Online, she explained that she never really liked school as a child and when she enrolled at 糖心传媒 she vowed to do her very best. The best thing you can do before the first day is figuring out how to balance school with your other responsibilities. You likely have more obligations than just school, such as family life and work. Invest in a planner that will allow you to schedule your daily task. Sometimes it can even be helpful to tell the people in your life that you are taking on a new responsibility that requires you to manage your time accordingly. Having a set time for homework and studying goes a long way!

It can also be helpful to establish a sleep schedule. You should wake up ready to tackle the day, however; you won鈥檛 feel refreshed if you don鈥檛 get a good night’s sleep. While college might result in a few late nights, you should still be able to get enough sleep regularly. Instead of staying up late on your break, go to bed at a decent time. It will be much easier to go to bed early during the school year when your body has adjusted accordingly.

Another way to prepare for school is to organize a designated area to study. It might be a desk in your bedroom or a quiet room at your local library. Wherever you decide to do your classes, make sure it is a place where you will not get easily distracted. Completing schoolwork requires hard work and concentration, so avoid areas that are crowded and loud.

Lastly, motivate yourself by remembering why you are going to school. It will guide you through your educational journey when you want to give up. You know why you started college. Maybe it was to show your children they can achieve great things, or perhaps you are ready to advance your career. Whatever your why, don鈥檛 forget it! If necessary, write it down on a sticky note and hang it where you can see it each morning.

Even though going back to school can be a big transition, it is worth doing. The first few days may be difficult, but it will pay off as you walk across the stage!

Anna-Catherine Kueng is a rising senior at the University of Lynchburg majoring in English with minoring in Professional Writing and Educational Studies. After graduation, her goal is to become a middle or high school English teacher. While at college, she works as the assistant editor of The Critograph newspaper and co editor in chief of The Prism literary magazine. She is also a member of the Westover Honors College, Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society and Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.

Anna-Catherine graduated from Tunstall High School in 2018, and she has lived in Danville, VA all of her life. She discovered her love for writing and literature in high school while taking journalism and Advanced Placement (AP) English classes.

Outside of academics, Anna-Catherine enjoys playing the piano, spending time with her family and running. She prides herself in a large childhood collection of elephant stuffed animals and figurines.

In addition to being an intern for 糖心传媒 Online, she also works as a log editor for Life Push in Danville, VA. Anna-Catherine is excited for her internship with 糖心传媒 Online and looks forward to how the experience will further prepare her for a career in teaching.

Caitlin Towler is a sophomore at 糖心传媒, who is majoring in Organizational Communication and Public Relations and minoring in English. While at 糖心传媒, Caitlin stays busy by working as an editor for the University鈥檚 literary magazine, The Ember.

Caitlin graduated from George Washington High School in 2019, and has lived in Danville, VA all of her life. At an early age, her mother sparked her passion for writing, and she started to pursue her passion for communication as a freshman at George Washington High School when she joined their literary magazine, Euantes.

In her free time, Caitlin enjoys creating themed playlists, filling her shelves with books and growing cacti and succulents. Besides her love of plants and coffee, she likes to exercise her photography muscles and capture the greenery and wildlife around Danville. She is a fan of horror films, her favorites including classics such as The Craft (1996) and Interview with the Vampire (1994). While not an adventurer at heart, she still enjoys new places and experiences. This lead to her applying for an internship with the department, as she wants to be her own catalyst into a bright and enlightening future.

Eager to learn, she looks forward to gaining newly found knowledge and experiences through this internship. Caitlin intends to apply the experience she gains to her future career in Public Relations and Communications. With a passion for non-profits, she hopes to make a difference in how charities and similar organizations are seen and heard in our community. With the world鈥檚 crisis鈥� including homelessness and hunger, Caitlin wants to make a positive change in how the effected organizations are communicating with their communities, donors and those in need.

Throughout the internship program, Anna-Catherine and Caitlin will learn a variety of digital marketing skills including: photography, social media, data analytics and technical writing skills. We welcome Anna-Catherine and Caitlin to our team and wish them immense success this summer!

As you enter into the job market, it is important to make sure your overall appearance is professional. Also, it is best practice to review all of your social media accounts after graduation. As you review, make sure all pictures and postings display you in a positive light. Any you find that may not, now is the perfect time to delete them!

S 鈥� Set Your Goals: Now that you have accomplished your goal of graduation, it is an excellent time to set new goals for your post-graduate career. Do you want pay off your student loans by a certain date? Do you have a dream job in mind? Do you want to own a home, or move far away? These goals should be based on what you want in life, so you can plan your next action steps to accomplish them.

E 鈥� Evaluate Your Objectives: Now that you鈥檝e set your goals. It鈥檚 time to evaluate them. Decide on how you are going to accomplish them in a timely manner. Do you want to pay off your student loans in five years? Action item: Start setting aside $500 a month for my loans. Do you want to work for a CPA firm? Action items: Update my resume, network with other CPA鈥檚, and start taking the CPA exam. Evaluate your goals in a manner so you can create easy to accomplish action items for yourself. This will in turn make your goals much more attainable, and you will find yourself achieving your goals more quickly!

My favorite thing about 糖心传媒 would be the faculty and staff. Throughout my educational experience, they have been nothing but supportive and patient. – Shakeva Frazier, BS ’20

Since Shakeva Frazier was 9 years old, it has been her dream to attend 糖心传媒. In 2011, her daughter gave her an 糖心传媒 sticker and said, “Momma, you are going there one day.”

Shakeva said towards the end of her educational experience, she almost gave up. However, 糖心传媒’s professors never gave up on her and continued to be patient, understanding, supportive, and encouraged her to keep pursuing her dreams.

In December of 2020, she was able to walk across 糖心传媒’s stage to receive her diploma. Frazier graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sociology. With her newly earned degree, Shakeva says she would love to continue to work with youth and to pursue a career in trauma counseling.
