Deciding which program to pursue as you go back to school can be strenuous. It can often be difficult to find the perfect program, one that is the right for your career goals, fits your passion and aligns with your values. However, at 糖心传媒 we are here to help! We have developed a few quick tips to help make this process easier for you!

• Find your passion 鈥揊or many, a passion is an area of deep interest that also incorporates the values and abilities of a person. Your passion can be the key to determining a program, as it uses the items that are significant to you and aligns them with a program that is closely related to your interests.
• Consider your current career 鈥� Your current career can help you determine a program as well. It is best to take a look at your career goals, and decide which program(s) best align with them or can help accelerate them. This could be choosing a program that gives you the credentials for your desired promotion, deepens your understanding for your current field, or broadens your educational horizons in new areas.
• Do your research 鈥� It is always important to do your research. Take time to consider the long-term effects of choosing each program of interest. Some questions you could ask yourself are:
  1. Will you still enjoy it years from now?
  2. What is job outlook in the next five to ten years?
  3. Is there room for growth with this degree?
• Seek advice 鈥� You are not alone. If you are having a difficult time deciding which program is right for you seek advice from your admissions counselor, family and friends. Your admissions counselor has knowledge about every program, and help you narrow down which program is best for you based on your career goals. Take time to talk with your family and friends as well. They are great source of inspiration and ideas; and no one knows you better than them!

So far, my favorite thing about 糖心传媒 is how all of my professors have been available to answer questions and to explain any material that I have confusion over. – Debbie Spear, M.Ed. – Curriculum and Instruction

Due to a partnership between 糖心传媒 Online and Petersburg City Public Schools, Debbie Spear decided to pursue her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. 糖心传媒 Online welcomed her and a cohort of other teachers from Petersburg City Public Schools to support K-12 teachers. Debbie has a passion for math, so she was excited for the opportunity to go back to school and learn new skills.

糖心传媒 Online is dedicated to student success and makes it easy for students to transition back into their studies. Debbie is especially appreciative of the dedication provided by her instructors and how they are there to help her every step of the way. If she is ever confused about course material, they are quick to respond and guide her in understanding.

When asked to provide advice to those debating going back to school, Debbie said, 鈥淒o it! Don’t let age or anything else keep you from bettering yourself. Just make sure to get a planner to keep yourself organized and on task.鈥�

Anna-Catherine Kueng is a rising senior at the University of Lynchburg majoring in English with minoring in Professional Writing and Educational Studies. After graduation, her goal is to become a middle or high school English teacher. While at college, she works as the assistant editor of The Critograph newspaper and co editor in chief of The Prism literary magazine. She is also a member of the Westover Honors College, Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society and Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.

Anna-Catherine graduated from Tunstall High School in 2018, and she has lived in Danville, VA all of her life. She discovered her love for writing and literature in high school while taking journalism and Advanced Placement (AP) English classes.

Outside of academics, Anna-Catherine enjoys playing the piano, spending time with her family and running. She prides herself in a large childhood collection of elephant stuffed animals and figurines.

In addition to being an intern for 糖心传媒 Online, she also works as a log editor for Life Push in Danville, VA. Anna-Catherine is excited for her internship with 糖心传媒 Online and looks forward to how the experience will further prepare her for a career in teaching.

Caitlin Towler is a sophomore at 糖心传媒, who is majoring in Organizational Communication and Public Relations and minoring in English. While at 糖心传媒, Caitlin stays busy by working as an editor for the University鈥檚 literary magazine, The Ember.

Caitlin graduated from George Washington High School in 2019, and has lived in Danville, VA all of her life. At an early age, her mother sparked her passion for writing, and she started to pursue her passion for communication as a freshman at George Washington High School when she joined their literary magazine, Euantes.

In her free time, Caitlin enjoys creating themed playlists, filling her shelves with books and growing cacti and succulents. Besides her love of plants and coffee, she likes to exercise her photography muscles and capture the greenery and wildlife around Danville. She is a fan of horror films, her favorites including classics such as The Craft (1996) and Interview with the Vampire (1994). While not an adventurer at heart, she still enjoys new places and experiences. This lead to her applying for an internship with the department, as she wants to be her own catalyst into a bright and enlightening future.

Eager to learn, she looks forward to gaining newly found knowledge and experiences through this internship. Caitlin intends to apply the experience she gains to her future career in Public Relations and Communications. With a passion for non-profits, she hopes to make a difference in how charities and similar organizations are seen and heard in our community. With the world鈥檚 crisis鈥� including homelessness and hunger, Caitlin wants to make a positive change in how the effected organizations are communicating with their communities, donors and those in need.

Throughout the internship program, Anna-Catherine and Caitlin will learn a variety of digital marketing skills including: photography, social media, data analytics and technical writing skills. We welcome Anna-Catherine and Caitlin to our team and wish them immense success this summer!
