Jillian Perez wasn鈥檛 considering continuing her education until she learned about 糖心传媒鈥檚 partnership with LifeSpire of Virginia. She currently works as a corporate recruiter for LifeSpire, a continuing care facility that operates four senior living communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In 2019, 糖心传媒 and LifeSpire joined forces to launch an educational partnership that includes internship opportunities for 糖心传媒 students, college-level lectures for LifeSpire residents and scholarships for LifeSpire employees to attend 糖心传媒.

Jillian was inspired by the opportunity to continue her education at 糖心传媒 and to receive scholarships along the way. She has been working in human resources for the last 5 years and is in the process of switching positions to a community human resource director position.聽 She is incredibly passionate about human resources and business administration. 糖心传媒 has been the perfect fit for her.

Our flexible coursework has given Jillian the ability to continue her full time employment while also taking classes online. LifeSpire has encouraged and supported her along the way. She loves the way 糖心传媒鈥檚 classes are structured and how she is able to see the course load ahead of time, allowing her to plan and prioritize her time efficiently.

As for being a full time employee and student, Jillian says 鈥淐oming back as an adult student comes with a lot of anxiety 鈥 Do I have the time? Is it too late? What if I can鈥檛 finish鈥gain? All of these fears have been put to rest at every turn as the 糖心传媒 administration, financial aid, and faculty have provided all of the support and tools I would need to really make sure I succeed鈥.

鈥淚f you are anything like me, working full time, not really sure if the effort and expense of going back to school is worth it, I鈥檓 here to tell you it is!鈥

Jillian is appreciative of the partnership between 糖心传媒 and LifeSpire. It encouraged her curiosity and from the moment she submitted her application, 糖心传媒 grabbed her by the hand and said let鈥檚 go!

糖心传媒鈥檚 criminal justice and sociology degree programs are entirely online and designed for working adults!

Continuing education in the discipline of criminal justice and sociology has a significant influence on the delivery of public safety services and empowers students to lead by instilling the passion to serve and lead as catalysts for positive change within our communities.

In order to make our criminal justice and sociology programs stand out from other schools, 糖心传媒 has created multiple partnership opportunities for students interested in these programs. We offer partner scholarships, as well as a free transfer credit evaluation. Your academy credits and military background could also count toward degree completion credits, which could mean less coursework needed to graduate.聽 Our goal is to enable students to earn their degree in as short amount of time as possible, with as little financial debt as possible.

  • Community College Partnerships: 糖心传媒 has partnered with many community colleges in the Commonwealth and North Carolina to create a transfer process that is orderly and smooth for graduates of administration of justice programs who wish to transfer to 糖心传媒 and earn a bachelor of science in sociology and criminal justice.
  • First Responder Partner Scholarship Program and Advisory Board Partners: The 糖心传媒 First Responder Partnership Program allows partner organizations to refer employees for undergraduate and graduate degrees at a significantly lower tuition rate.
    • 糖心传媒 grants a $250 scholarship per course for undergraduate students and a $350 scholarship for graduate students.
    • 糖心传媒 waives all standard deposit and/or registration fees for our partners.
    • Provide custom direct-payment option.

糖心传媒 offers three criminal justice and sociology degrees that are entirely online and affordable!

  1. Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Leadership 鈥 this degree provides progressive professional graduate educational opportunities for those who aspire to work in public safety and those who already work in the field of public safety and are seeking advancement to administrative and leadership roles and responsibilities in their field.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Criminal Justice 鈥 this program prepares you to serve the community in a wide variety of local, state and federal government jobs. Many of our graduates go on to pursue careers in public safety, law enforcement, juvenile justice, probation and parole, corrections, victim advocacy, court services, social services, and more.
  3. Bachelor of Science in Sociology 鈥 this degree provides you with a strong foundation in the basic principles, techniques of analysis, and theories for understanding and working with the important aspects of social life in the contemporary world. This program prepares you for a career in government employment, secondary teaching, social services, and research with agencies in human services, public safety, industry, business and pre-law.

糖心传媒 is proud to partner with DCC to create a pathway for criminal justice students to continue their education here at the University. Like DCC, 糖心传媒 continues to find new and innovative ways to serve Danville and the surrounding area so students can remain close to home while continuing their education,鈥 Dr. Tiffany M. Franks, President of 糖心传媒 Univesity

糖心传媒 President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks and Danville Community College (DCC) President Dr. Jackie Gill Powell have signed an articulation agreement and community educational partnership agreement in order to make the transfer process for DCC graduates coming to 糖心传媒 smoother. This is the tenth criminal justice articulation agreement that 糖心传媒 has created with its surrounding community colleges in three years, and the eighth with DCC.

This agreement is designed to increase criminal justice educational access, options and opportunities for current and aspiring criminal justice practitioners. The articulation agreement focuses on traditional students studying sociology and criminal justice. It allows students who have completed DCC’s Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in administration of justice to transfer to 糖心传媒 and continue their education to earn a Bachelor of Science in sociology/criminal justice. The student will enter 糖心传媒 with a junior status and can expect to聽graduate after completing a minimum of 60 credits at 糖心传媒.

The community educational partnership agreement is aimed for adult students entering 糖心传媒’s Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) program. It guarantees the acceptance of any DCC student to 糖心传媒 who has completed an associate degree. However, all students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. These agreements allow students to continue their education at a four-year university.

Both the community educational partnership agreement and the articulation agreement allow for a seamless evolution for students to move onto a four-year university, including many scholarship and financial aid options. Members of Phi Theta Kappa, the community college honor society, are automatically awarded a $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship once they are admitted to 糖心传媒.

糖心传媒 President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks and Virginia Western Community College President Dr. Robert Sandel made history as the first partnership between the two schools became official. The presidents signed an articulation agreement making it easier for students who start their education at Virginia Western to complete their bachelor鈥檚 degree at 糖心传媒.

The articulation agreement allows for students who have completed their Associate in Applied Science degree in administration of justice from Virginia Western, with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, to transfer to 糖心传媒 to complete their Bachelor of Science in sociology/criminal justice degree. The student will enter 糖心传媒 with a junior status and can expect to graduate after completing a minimum of 60 credits at 糖心传媒.

This is a wonderful opportunity for more students who wish to build upon their two-year degree and transition easily to a four-year university.

鈥淲e are excited to enter into a new partnership with Virginia Western Community College. This is a wonderful opportunity for more students who wish to build upon their two-year degree and transition easily to a four-year university. This couldn鈥檛 happen without a great partner school like Virginia Western,鈥 Franks said. 鈥淭his agreement also expands 糖心传媒鈥檚 footprint in the Roanoke area, where we have a Graduate and Professional Studies regional presence at the Roanoke Higher Education Center. We are delighted for the opportunity to serve more students from the Roanoke region.鈥

The agreement allows for an orderly and smooth transition for students including many scholarship and financial aid options. Members of Phi Theta Kappa, the community college honor society, are automatically awarded a $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship once they are admitted to 糖心传媒.

鈥淭his is a tremendous opportunity for our students to seamlessly continue their education at such a fine institution as 糖心传媒,鈥 Sandel said. 鈥淲e are very proud of the success of our administration of justice students and the large number of the region鈥檚 law enforcement officers who have graduated from the program. Through this partnership, they will have expanded opportunities to gain valuable knowledge and skills to advance in the profession.鈥

Additionally, the two presidents signed a Guaranteed Admissions Agreement/Community Educational Partnership Agreement stating that 糖心传媒 welcomes and values the transfer students from VWCC.

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) and New College Institute (NCI) partnered with 糖心传媒 to connect their technical trainers to a unique professional development opportunity.

鈥淲e have subject matter experts who are practitioners in the technical areas of our workforce training programs, and we want to help prepare and position them to be highly effective trainers. It is important that we pair technical expertise with exceptional classroom competencies,鈥 said Dr. Nettie Simon-Owens, SVHEC Chief Workforce Development Officer.

糖心传媒 responded to this need by developing and delivering a new 10-week, face-to-face program entitled 鈥淚nstructional Dynamics for Technical Trainers.鈥 Designed to build classroom competencies for all levels of technical trainers, the program consisted of 30 instructional hours in five core areas: classroom management, learning principles and styles, using technology in the classroom/lab, assessment and planning.

鈥淲e are always thrilled when we have the opportunity to work alongside our partners like the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and New College Institute on our shared vision of developing a robust and prepared workforce through educational initiatives,鈥 said 糖心传媒 President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks. 鈥淭his program was built out of our distinguished Education program, which places many teachers throughout the region鈥檚 school systems and will now equip technical trainers to be strong teachers in their content areas of expertise.鈥

NCI and SVHEC began piloting the 鈥淚nstructional Dynamics鈥 program this spring, with individuals attending class one evening a week. SVHEC鈥檚 cohort included full-time workforce development staff, selected part-time trainers and several small business owners who will serve as technical training resources for future program initiatives. NCI鈥檚 class was comprised of two New College staff members and several full-time employees from industries in the Martinsville/Henry County area.

鈥淭he class provided insight into the unique requirements of adult learners as well as practical tips for a purposeful, high quality learning experience.聽It filled in some knowledge gaps for those of us who do not have an education background,鈥 said Kelly Shotwell, SVHEC IT Academy Program Coordinator and Trainer.

These Instructional Dynamics courses will help to make that transition a lot easier and give our industry partners the professional tools they need to develop a high performing workforce

鈥淎s a person with an extensive background in manufacturing, I have experienced first-hand the challenges of taking an individual from being a highly proficient machinist, to technical trainer. These Instructional Dynamics courses will help to make that transition a lot easier and give our industry partners the professional tools they need to develop a high performing workforce,鈥 said Pamela Carter-Taylor, NCI Coordinator of Advanced Manufacturing.

The pilot of 鈥淚nstructional Dynamics for Technical Trainers鈥 officially ended on June 28 with a luncheon hosted by 糖心传媒. Program participants were recognized, and received completion certificates. 鈥淲e鈥檙e grateful for the partnership and collaboration with 糖心传媒 and New College Institute. What has been taught and learned in the modules will help us standardize course materials as appropriate across all of our training programs, and will enable us to prepare our local and regional technical professionals to be better technical trainers,鈥 Dr. Simon-Owens stated.

Today, 糖心传媒 President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks, and Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) President Dr. Angeline Godwin, signed an agreement that will make it easy for students graduating from PHCC to become students at 糖心传媒.

鈥淲e are thrilled to enter into this agreement with 糖心传媒,鈥 says Godwin. 鈥淔or our students, an articulation agreement promises a bright future 鈥 the assurance of acceptance and a smooth transition. We don鈥檛 want any of our students to worry about how they are going to take their next steps after PHCC. This agreement is just another way we can remove barriers to our students鈥 success.鈥

The articulation agreement provides a seamless path for PHCC鈥檚 Administration of Justice graduates to transfer smoothly to 糖心传媒鈥檚 Criminal Justice program. It ensures those with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher will be accepted to 糖心传媒 and that the credits they earn for the associate鈥檚 degree will transfer directly into credits required for 糖心传媒鈥檚 Bachelor of Science in Sociology/Criminal Justice degree.

When PHCC graduates take advantage of the articulation agreement, they will enter 糖心传媒鈥檚 Criminal Justice program as juniors. They can expect to graduate from 糖心传媒 with their bachelor鈥檚 degree in 60 semester hours 鈥 which is the equivalent of four semesters or two years. 糖心传媒 offers scholarships specific to qualifying transfer students, and all students are automatically considered for academic scholarships once they are granted admission to the University. The agreement was largely designed by 糖心传媒鈥檚 Director of Criminal Justice in Graduate and Professional Studies, Dr. James Hodgson, and PHCC鈥檚 Associate Professor of Administration of Justice, Ronnie Wray.

鈥淲e are delighted to partner with our peers at PHCC once again, and to offer students in this region a simple, smooth transition to pursuing the next level in their criminal justice careers and education.鈥

鈥淲e are delighted to partner with our peers at PHCC once again, and to offer students in this region a simple, smooth transition to pursuing the next level in their criminal justice careers and education,鈥 said Franks. 鈥淭his trajectory will produce graduates who are prepared to develop increased levels of public trust and confidence in law enforcement agencies to respond effectively to issues in their communities 鈥 precisely what we鈥檝e heard is needed from our community partnering policing agencies.鈥

In conjunction with the articulation agreement, the two presidents also signed a Community Educational Partnership Agreement. It ensures an easy transition for PHCC graduates entering 糖心传媒鈥檚 Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) bachelor鈥檚 degree program. With this agreement, 糖心传媒 guarantees acceptance to its GPS program and awards junior status to any PHCC student who has completed an associate鈥檚 degree. 糖心传媒鈥檚 GPS program is an adult-oriented program based on an accelerated educational model offering courses, both on-ground and online, in business, nursing, education, leadership and criminal justice.

While Newport News Shipbuilding once offered its employees assistance with college expenses years ago, it wasn鈥檛 until this spring when聽of the corporation that the college tuition assistance program was reinstated. As of July 1, 2017, the company is providing $5,250 per year, per employee, towards college coursework.

Since many Newport News Shipbuilding employees were already enrolled in college programs both at 糖心传媒鈥檚 Chesapeake campus and via 糖心传媒鈥檚 online program prior to Newport News Shipbuilding reinstating their tuition assistance program this summer, this new added employee benefit makes pursuing that formal degree even easier and more viable than ever. • Accelerated completion (typically 24 months)
  • Affordability
  • Access to a dedicated Student Success team

The partnership was developed out of the shared commitment to the region, and in response to the needs of the region鈥檚 workforce.

糖心传媒 will now offer its Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Leadership Studies program through online instruction to students who have graduated from PHCC鈥檚 Associate of Applied Science program. In addition, 糖心传媒 and NCI will work together to offer students face-to-face support and other learning opportunities at NCI in Martinsville.

鈥淥ne of the greatest benefits of this degree is it helps those with applied science associate degrees to seamlessly take the final few steps needed to earn their baccalaureate degree so they are now poised to be promoted and move into positions of management and leadership within their workplaces,鈥 said . 鈥淲e are grateful to our wonderful colleagues at PHCC and NCI who share in our vision of developing students who will continue to live and work here, and give back to this region we all love.鈥

鈥淲e are so excited to embrace this new articulation agreement between PHCC and 糖心传媒 for a bachelor鈥檚 degree focusing on leadership studies,鈥 said . 鈥淲e appreciate NCI鈥檚 partnership in facilitating this new opportunity, for this academic collaboration will certainly benefit our many students who transfer to 糖心传媒.鈥

PHCC applied science graduates with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher who apply will receive a guaranteed automatic acceptance to 糖心传媒, and will be able to transfer almost all academic credits and granted junior level status. Upon acceptance, they can expect to graduate from 糖心传媒 with their bachelor鈥檚 after the successful completion of at least 30 semester hours. The agreement is effective immediately.

鈥淭he new program represents a strong partnership between 糖心传媒, PHCC and NCI as well as a mutual commitment to bettering our regional workforce through collaboration,鈥 said . 鈥淚t will open doors for a myriad of individuals with applied associates degrees by enhancing their career opportunities in our region.鈥

The program and partnership was developed directly from feedback from local employers and will greatly impact regional workforce development.

鈥淏assett Furniture鈥檚 growth is creating new opportunities for employment in Martinsville-Henry County. Many of the concentrations available in the Bachelors of Applied Science program would certainly help us in meeting our future employment needs. It is exciting to see the partnership between the schools to offer this degree program to the community, said Eddie White, vice president of human resources at Bassett Furniture.
